Where is my team's Fall NSYSA Schedule?

Posted: Sunday September 5th, 2021 Expires: 12/31/2021

*

The Fall NSYSA season approaches and players and parents what to know their schedule.

FIRST POINT - SCHEDULES CHANGE! DO NOT look up once, print, and post the full season's schedule on the fridge, assuming that the schedule will never change.
You really - REALLY! - need to always listen to your coach and regularly check for the current schedule to be sure you're at the correct field at the correct kick-off time. (Or set match update notifications on your User profile...)

The essential basics for finding your teams schedule is to know their unique WSYSA ID#, or (FULL team name + level (age) + gender, + division)

This FAQ walks you through all the steps and options you need to know for successfully finding your schedule, as well as setting notification subscriptions to your User profile so you'll be notified in the event of any schedule updates. more

Can We Improve the Culture of Sports?

Posted: Saturday July 31st, 2021 Expires: 12/31/2024

*

As we lace up cleats and blow-up balls for another season of soccer, let's everyone — coaches, referees, players, administrators and parents — undertake the ultimate (personal) responsibility for improving the culture of youth sports.

The key lies in the rules. Our kids deserve a healthy culture of mutual respect and camaraderie led by adults able to model the ideals of competition and sportsmanship.

Paradigm-shifting change is never easy. For example, when heading was eliminated and the fall-back line was added for U11 and below play, the initial reaction was much wailing and outrage. Yet, because the goal was clear and necessary, the change happened, and it has reduced incidents of serious injury as well as improved the development nature of the small-sided game.

Productive change is always possible, especially to address a crisis — like the referee shortage - it starts with EVERYONE doing their part.

Thank you for your continuing cooperation with NSYSA on this journey.

More Officials, Better Fan Behavior Needed in Sports

Posted: Friday May 7th, 2021 Expires: 12/31/2024

In some cases, the number of available officials has declined due to health-related reasons – people opting out this year because of the pandemic. As vaccinations increase and the optics improve, many of these individuals hopefully will return.

For other officials, however, the pandemic was a secondary concern compared to the verbal abuse they receive from fans – mostly parents.

A peek into WA State Referee's Return To Play Protocols

Posted: Tuesday February 16th, 2021 Expires: 12/31/2021

*

This insight from Washington State Referee Committee is being communicated with all Referees returning to games this week.

"As many counties within the state of Washington move into Phase 2, and hopefully we see games resume next weekend, we want to keep you updated about protocols and the one major change that has taken place.

"To meet state guidelines, Washington Youth Soccer and the WA State Referee Committee have worked together to review the original set of Return to Play Protocols and to make any necessary revisions. We have incorporated the referee responsibilities into the WYS Protocols and Safety Plan, but we also have our own documents. These protocols are also posted on the WASRC website.

"Return to Play for Match Officials - http://www.wareferees.org/Documents/Return%20to%20Play%20-%20Match%20Officials%20(Jan2021).pdf

"WYS Gameday Protocols - https://washingtonyouthsoccer.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/WYS_League_Protocols_Safety_Plan_1.29.21.pdf

"Please note that the WYS gameday protocols only apply to games sanctioned by WYS. Please check with the league and/or your assignor for games sanctioned by US Club or adult matches.

"The main change to the protocols for officials is the mask requirement. MASKS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES - THIS INCLUDES DURING THE GAME.

"To summarize the guidelines:
· As a referee, you are only responsible for your behavior.
· Don’t referee if you are not comfortable with it at this time.
· If you are not feeling well, contact your assignor as soon as possible.
· Follow all state and local guidelines.
· Maintain proper distancing at all times.
· Wear a mask before, during, halftime, and after the match.
· Do not touch the game balls or player passes at any time.
· Use hand sanitizer.
· Don’t shake hands, fist-bumps, etc.
· Use common sense more
